Kim Hyun Joong: Blessed Angel: Part I Career

Shimono6_2
For the next few article releases, I intend to highlight and discuss the many blessings in the life of Kim Hyun Joong! First, we will highlight some of the most shining moments in his Abundantly Blessed Career. In Part II of this series, I will talk about his Personal Blesssings...
Finally, in Part III, I will share the reason Kim Hyun Joong has that Midas Touch, and why others will never be able to equal him.  What I mean by that is not that other stars will never be more successful in terms of Personal Life or Career.  What I mean is that there is no other like the unique 4D Alien Prince Kim Hyun Joong.  He will become a legend in the Korean Hallyu world without a doubt and future generations of up and comings will look up to him as a Mentor.  His charisma, popularity, and magnetism are a supernatural force that cannot be denied.  He is blessed on so many levels, Beauty, Talent, Business Sense, Charm, and most importantly Humility, Sincerity and Grace.  He can be described in many ways, but when it comes right down to it, he is simply who he is and that is the number one key to his success.  So, let's begin....

Career Blessing Number One:  Let's start this long list with the Korean version of Boys over Flowers.  Although Hyun Joong had a few minor T.V. appearances before BOF, and had already been active with his Boy Band SS501, the reason I go to BOF first is because I have seen first hand that most of his International Fans were introduced to him through the airing of  this drama in their country.

Let's just see how many foreign (meaning not Korea) countries the Korean version starring Lee Min Ho (Gu Jun Pyo)  Ku Hye Sun (Geum Jan Di) and Kim Hyun Joong (Yoon Ji Hoo) aired in:

  • Philippines, premier on May 11, 2009 in the primetime spot
  • Malaysia premier December 16, 2009
  • Taiwan premier 10 May 2009
  • Singapore premier 16 May 2009
  • Hong Kong's premier in 2009.
  • Indonesia premiere 1 June 2009.
  • Thailand premier 4 July 2009
  • Vietnam premiere June 24, 2009 HT. TVM held the copyright and it legally premiered August 22, 2009
  • Xing Kong premier July 8, 2009
  • Canada no premier date available
  • Israel premier September 3, 2010
  • United States Hulu premiered streaming August 2010.  Netflix premiered streaming around September.
  • Peru premier May 5, 2011
  • Panama premier June 19, 2011
  • Botswana premier January 2011
  • Ecuador Currently airing on Ecuador TV
  • Romania premier October 12, 2011
  • Puerto Rico premier October 19, 2011
  • Kazakhstan aired on El Arna
  • Chile premier April 16, 2012

  • The above was taken from Asian Wiki and is by no means a comprehensive list.  There are numerous streaming sites around the web that have the Korean Boys over Flowers as well.  Thanks to an army of fans who help maintain those sites and translate dramas into MANY MANY languages including Spanish, Russian, Italian, and Arabic.  So, if you have any interest in Foreign Entertainment at all, you have probably heard of Boys over Flowers, no matter where you live, unless it's an ancient tribe in the jungle with no T.V. or Internet Access.  LOL!

Career Blessing Number Two:  SS501.  Kim Hyun Joong was the appointed leader, and the group enjoyed a notable amount of success from their debut in 2005 until their contract with DSP expired in 2010.  Awards ranged from M.net Best Male Group and Best Dance Group to Golden Disk Newcomer and Popularity awards, along with Seoul Music Awards for Popularity and Hallyu.  Most of their early success was in Korea prior to Hyun Joong's filming of Boys over Flowers. In 2008, Hyun Joong's  appearances on the Variety Show We Got Married had to be cut short due to filming of Boys over Flowers.  After filming was complete, DSP already had plans for their first Asian tour and I believe it was the success of  Boys over Flowers as it premiered in 2009 and their contribution to the OST that caused them to take off in a global sense.  Every Kim Hyun Joong fan has SS501 songs as part of their KHJ repertoire even if they were never a fan of the group as a whole. In the first half of 2010, they continued to enjoy great success as a group until their contract with DSP was ended in May.  In June 2010 Hyun Joong signed with Baek Yong Joon's KeyEast Entertainment and completed the filming of Playful Kiss which aired in September 2010.

Career Blessing Number Three:  Awards, Awards, Awards.  Since his appearance in WGM in 2008, Hyun Joong has been collecting his awards without pause.  My favorite is the Mnet 20's Choice Award: Most Influential Star in 2010.  To me, this award was the most poignant.  His personal influence has propelled him in all aspects of his career to success beyond imagination.  I will discuss this influence in the final segment of this series.  With only 25 awards listed in the official Wikipedia on Kim Hyun Joong, I dare say he has gained even more as I noted that his 2012 Handsome Man Korea award was not listed.  Most of those listed are buzz worthy awards and popularity awards.  It was not until he launched his solo career and took Asia by storm (literally!  LOL!  He is known as the god of rain because it seems to rain when he blows into town for a fan meeting or promotional activity!  HAA!)  that he began pulling in the music awards as well from M.Net's Best Male Artist to his nomination for the Most Popular and Influential Korean Artist at the 15th Global China Music Awards.  My favorite moment in his award circuit was M.Net 20's Choice awards where he gave an eye popping, jaw dropping and sexy performance shirtless and wet, scrambling the minds of his fans everywhere!

Click below to watch on youtube!  (Hint: the best part is at the end, and entirely too short in my opinion.  Step aside, Flower Boy!  Kim Hyun Joong is officially a MAN!  Pardon me while I go rest in front of the fan....enjoy!)

And we have arrived at Career Blessing Number Four:  Hyun Joong's solo career.  At this point, all I can say is WOW!  Who could have anticipated the level of success he would attain after signing with KeyEast Entertainment and beginning his solo activities.  His first mini album Break Down premiered on June 8, 2011.  From there on the rest is history. According to Wikipedia, Break Down exceeded 70,000 pre-ordered copies in just 10 days and continued from there. It peaked at number one on Gaon Weekly Album Chart for the week starting 5 June 2011 and was the best-selling album for June on Gaon Monthly Album Chart with 100,433 copies sold. It also topped the Oricon chart in Japan in the International Imported Album category for the first week of July.  The album's title track Break Down was the first place winner for two consecutive weeks on Mnet's M! Countdown music show, for 16 and 23 June 2011.  It also won for two consecutive weeks on KBS's Music Bank. Break Down is certified platinum in Taiwan and Hyun Joong was presented with a platinum record by Warner Music Taiwan CEO Chen Ze Shan in a press conference held in Taiwan.

The Break Down single was followed up by Kiss Kiss in July 2011.  Once again, Hyun Joong surprised fans with a newer softer look for the lighthearted track off the Break Down album.  While he shocked us with his manly sexiness for Break Down, he charmed us once again with his sweetness in Kiss Kiss using cute and happy dance moves and that mega watt smile that melts our hearts.  In October 2012, only four months after releasing Break Down, Hyun Joong released his second mini album Lucky.  With the title track Lucky Guy, fans got to see a mini movie featuring Hyun Joong being his playful and crazy self.  I will never forget the first time I watched it and laughed until my belly hurt and tears were flowing down.  I knew he had written the script and developed the characters because they were pure fun.  Pure Kim Hyun Joong.  Following Lucky, Hyun Joong released his Japanese versions of Break Down and Lucky with just as much if not more success.

As of this date, his final Japanese release entitled HEAT! has been the top kpop idol star on the Oricon charts in Japan for week 39 of 2012.  He is not even on promotional tour right now, but hiding away in his filming of City Conquest and he is still the top Korean idol star on the chart at Number 25! I don't know a lot about the kpop idol scene, but I do know this:  Japan is usually their first crossover country for obvious reasons.  It is close to Korea, and the languages are very similar in structure.  Koreans usually have little problems learning Japanese once they've been introduced to it.  In short, success in Japan is the first indicator of their overall success, and Hyun Joong has nailed down his number one status for over 9 weeks!

Career Blessing Number Five:   his upcoming drama City Conquest PRE-SOLD for about $11 million dollars just because it was announced that he would be portraying the starring role of Baek Mir:   His management KeyEast revealed on June 4th, 2012: "We have signed contracts with Japan, China, Hong Kong and Taiwan for an estimated 11.8 billion won" (~US$11 million).  As of this date, there has been no confirmation of which network(s) will air City Conquest  after filming is complete.  Unbelievably, it has already made so much money just because of the name and reputation of Kim Hyun Joong.  I will be eager to watch it's success after it begins airing in these different countries.  (And eager to find out which internet site will be carrying it with English subs for the English speaking fans.  I will keep you advised.)

And finally Career Blessing Number Six:  Hyun Joong's mind blowing popularity among fans across many countries.  His Chinese Weibo account was launched on his birthday June 26, 2012.  On that first day he gained over 230,00 followers setting the record for the most followers on the first day.  As of this date, I have not heard of anyone topping it.  The internet was all a buzz about it for over a month as people posted these results in news articles and on fan sites.  I have fans who visit this site from so many places I was completely shocked when I first started seeing the results.  I have personally come across fan sites online from just about everywhere from Spain to Phillipines to China to Japan to India, Taiwan, Russia, the Middle East and of course my home USA!  Since I don't really follow any other Korean Hallyu stars, I don't know what their international fan base is like, but I know Kim Hyun Joong's followers are dedicated and sincere.  And all I have to say is a man who is abundantly blessed, and remains humble, will continue to be blessed beyond imagination! That is Kim Hyun Joong. He is blessed because he is humble and sincere, not because he has done anything dazzling to gather followers, but just because he is who he is. That’s why I am his for life and more!

Next week, we will highlight Kim Hyun Joong's personal blessings featuring his strong work ethic, professional attitude and endless drive to overcome his limitations in order to achieve his ambitious goals.  Until then, Happy Aliens, we will march on loving and protecting our Angel of the East:  Kim Hyun Joong.
